Pulse presents a number of insights about your store to help you increase profitability and fix issues that are costing you money. Insights can be found on the right hand side of your Dashboard when you log in to Pulse.
What is Data Check?
Pulse works by analysing that sales data that comes from your ePoS system and identifying patterns.
With this in mind, it is important that we have received and can trust the data from your ePoS. To help with this, it is sometimes necessary for us to point out where the system has identified issues with sales data and ask you to help us ascertain if there is an actual problem. This will appear on Pulse as a Data Check alert.
If we suspect there might be an issue, you will see a 'Data Check!' alert when you log in to Pulse.
Pulse establishes there may be an issue by comparing the given day's sales against the same day and date last year, as well as against the recent average sales for that day of the week.
It also keeps track of the average number of tills in operation per day and will call out a potential issue if the number of tills with recorded sales is lower than that expected.
When you click into the Data Check insight, you will see a grid similar to the below. Below we explain what each numbered column is referring to. If you need more help understanding how a grid works, make sure to read our How to use Grids guide.

1. Sales (All & Gross): The gross value (including VAT) of all transactions (this includes fuel sales if the store is a forecourt).

3. Same Date LY: This columns shows what the sales were on the same date last year - i.e comparing, for example, the 14/04/2020 with the 14/04/2019.
4. Recent Avg: What was the recent average of sales (as above) from the previous 4 weeks for this day of the week.
5. Tills: This shows how many tills recorded sales in the store on this date. You will also see how many tills Pulse was expecting data from.
6. Notes (Sales): Why Pulse is telling you there is a potential issue with this day in respect of sales value.
What should you do?
You should check that the sales figures and till counts for the day are correct. If you are satisfied that they are correct, you can tell Pulse to ignore this date going forward.
